Former Senior California Court Commissioner, Jack J. Gold, has joined the LibertyBell Law Group team of criminal defense attorneys. After 26 years in the Criminal and Juvenile Departments of the largest criminal court in the country, Mr. Gold has come away with a library of knowledge and wisdom in the art of criminal defense.
Mr. Gold has practiced in both Federal and State Courts since becoming an Attorney in 1971. Prior to his 26 years as a Criminal and Juvenile Superior Court Commissioner, Mr. Gold practiced law as a criminal defense attorney. Mr. Gold has defended thousands of criminal cases including drug possession cases, drug trafficking cases, sex crime cases, gang cases and violent crime cases including murder.
Amongst his cases, Mr. Gold handled the "largest" shipment of Quaaludes ever to be sent from the Los Angeles Airport. His client was facing a sentence of 53 years in federal prison, but Mr. Gold was able to get his client a probationary sentence with no jail time. Mr. Gold also handled the famous "film pirate cases" wherein his clients were being criminally charged with intellectual property theft and copyright infringement in Federal Court. His handling of the case resulted in a dismissal on all counts for his client.
In 1982, Mr. Gold was appointed to the Superior Court as a Commissioner and was immediately assigned to preside over Juvenile Court matters. Over the course of his 26 years ruling on cases he has heard in excess of 40 cases a day. In addition to presiding over criminal matters, Mr. Gold spent 2 years in the Dependency Court hearing child abuse, neglect, abandonment and child molestation cases.
With Mr. Gold's experience and knowledge of the legal system he has gained great respect from his peers. In addition, he has been the recipient of numerous awards of excellence from a number of bar associations, elected officials and the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors. He was also elected to serve 2 terms as President of the Los Angeles County Juvenile Courts Bar Association.
In addition to Mr. Gold's courtroom experience both as a trial attorney and as a Commissioner, he has always been active in the legal community and has volunteered his time to the community at large. His extensive experience and knowledge of criminal law has made him a highly sought after keynote speaker lecturing to numerous community groups and organizations, including the Statewide Juvenile Judicial Conference about gangs and Juvenile Crime.
