A crime is considered "violent" when it involves physical harm to another person, or even the threat or attempt to do harm. Violent crimes are usually directed at a specific individual or group of individuals and often involve crimes in which weapons are possessed, threatening to be used or actually used in the comission of a crime. Murder, robbery, aggravated assault or battery, and rape are all examples of "violent" crimes.
Violent crimes are taken very seriously and typically involve prison terms and high bail amounts -- or even no bail amounts. The stakes are higher in violent crimes than in almost any other type of criminal charges.
