Robbery is the taking and carrying away of another person's property by force or fear. Robbery is considered a serious felony in all states. Armed robbery is a robbery accomplished by the use or threat of use of a weapon.
Robbery, and especially armed robbery, carries extreme penalties in every state. In some states, the maximum sentence for armed robbery is life imprisonment. Violent crimes are vigorously prosecuted, especially when the victim has actually suffered injury.
If you are charged as an accomplice or "aider and abettor" in a robbery (i.e., you were not the one who took the property or you were not the one with the weapon), do not be fooled into thinking you will not be punished as severely. You will. Virtually every state has law on the books allowing accomplices/aiders and abettors to be punished as though they actually wielded the gun, struck the victim or grabbed the money from the cash register.
